Meet me at the Fair!

This year, at the 79th Annual 89er Days Carnival, Dallas was big enough to ride.
This is his first ride of the day, we took this while it was still being loaded, but when it started moving it was going a little too fast for pictures. He did fine until about the third time around, then started to get the really scared look on his face when he couldn't find us in the crowd.There wern't any straps to hold him on this one, so I went around with him, and he laughed the whole way.
When Josh got hungry, he ordered a Jumbo Corndog, and Dallas couldn't take his eyes off it. Josh let him have a taste, but he didn't like the mustard and wouldn't take another bite.
We squeezed into a martian spinner, mostly because Josh really wanted to go on it. We had fun spinning it around, but Dallas kept trying to stand up on the "table".
Dallas had started to get really antsy about sitting in the stroller, walking, being carried, so we knew he was getting tired. There were only a few rides that would allow him on, so we came back to the carousel for one last ride before going home. Josh hopped on this time, and Dallas giggled when it started. As he moved away, he turned around and waved at "bye-bye" at me.
The carnival was a lot of fun, and Dallas wore himself out running everywhere at once. He fell asleep in the car, and we all went to bed when we got home. It was a great family evening.

14 April 2008

Grandma and Grandpa M. had just got home, and Dallas was watching them fix something on their big truck.

Hooray for using spoons (as opposed to fingers.)

Playing hide and seek, I thought I'd actually lost him...until he started giggling from his hiding place.

Dallas was so cute, and I couldn't resist the setting.
I like this, and I just had to try it for myself. Good call, Calista!!

Sloopy BattyNose
MY NEW NAME IS IN THE TITLE. DON'T LAUGH UNTIL YOU FIND OUT WHAT YOUR NEW NAME IS.

We all need a little stress-reliever! Sometimes when you have a stressful day or week, you need some silliness to break up the day. Here is a dose of humor...

A. Follow the instructions to find your new name.

B. Once you have your new name, post it as the title of your post. Include the instructions so everyone can play along! The following is excerpted from a children's book, Captain Underpants And the Perilous Plot Professor Poopypants by Dave Pilkey, in which the evil Professor forces everyone to assume new names...

So:1. Use the third letter of your first name to determine your New first name:

a = snickle

b = doombah

c = goober

d = cheesey

e = crusty

f = greasy

g = dumbo

h = farcus

i = dorky

j =doofus

k = funky

l = boobie

m = sleezy

n = sloopy

o = fluffy

p = stinky

q = slimy

r = dorfus

s = snooty

t = tootsie

u = dipsy

v = sneezy

w = liver

x = skippy

y = dinky

z = zippy

2. Use the second letter of your last name to determine the first half of your new last name:

a = dippin

b = feather

c = batty

d = burger

e = chicken

f = barffy

g = lizard

h = waffle

i = farkle

j = monkey

k = flippin

l = fricken

m = bubble

n = rhino

o = potty

p = hamster

q = buckle

r = gizzard

s = lickin

t = snickle

u = chuckle

v = pickle

w = hubble

x = dingle

y = gorilla

z = girdle

3. Use the third letter of your last name to determine the second half of your new last name:

a = butt

b = boob

c = face

d = nose

e = hump

f = breath

g = pants

h = shorts

i = lips

j = honker

k = head

l = tush

m = chunks

n = dunkin

o = brains

p = biscuits

q = toes

r = doodle

s = fanny

t = sniffer

u = sprinkles

v = frack

w = squirt

x = humperdinck

y = hiney

z = juice

Thus, for example, George W. Bush's new name is: Fluffy Chucklefanny.Now when you POST THIS...use your new name as the title. And remember that children laugh an average of 146 times a day; adults laugh an average of 4 times a day. Put more laughter in your day.

When I first saw this one Melinda's blog, I really needed the lift. The last couple of days have been a little rough because Josh was chosen to go to Pheonix (very short notice), and now he's been gone for two days, and there's still 19 left. My only option is to keep as busy as possible, because whenever I have a spare moment to sit still and think, my thoughts stray to Josh's face, Josh's voice, and my peace is shattered. I try hard not to think about him, but then I feel kinda guilty that I'm not, so I do, and then...ugh, it's just a vicious love cycle.

Anyway, I've spent the last several hours at Sarah H.'s house, letting her cheer me up, and letting Dallas play with Josilyn. We laughed and talked, ate some dinner, and had chocolate cheesecake smothered in whipped topping. It's really great that I have her here, closeby; someone I can turn to when I need that little bit of a lift.

[sigh]

All that's left is to go to bed tired, dream not at all, and snuggle up with Dallas for breakfast.

Meltdown

Today, I just had a complete breakdown. Mostly things were normal, fairly uneventful. But when I went to get Dallas up from his nap, he'd taken his diaper off. Nothing dirty or anything, just off. So I put him in another one. And twenty minutes later, another. This went on until about 4:30, and then I called my sister in-law, Sarah. I was crying, I didn't know what to do, and I begged her to help me. She said she'd bring over a little potty-training toilet, and told me she understood. That was best thing I'd heard all day. Then she even went further and called Josh on his way home and told him what a rotten day I'd had. As soon as he walked in the door he took charge of everything. He finished putting dinner together and fed me and Dallas, washed up the booster seat stuff, gathered up the trash...I almost started crying again.
So now I think I'm going to start a little bit of potty training with Dallas, because I can't do the stripping thing, and besides: he likes sitting on the potty. I'm really grateful I had someone to lean on today, especially someone who totally understood how I was feeling. I'm pretty lucky to have Sarah nearby, lucky to have another woman my age to turn to when I need a shoulder.

Pic of the Day #7

Dallas' room. Looks pretty normal, right? Bed, dresser/changing table/window...But, until today, the window did not have curtains. That's right!! I finally finished them! Mom left me the fabric when she came to take care of me after Dallas was born, and now we finally have a window, just for him, that I can cover it with. You can't see it, because I didn't take the greatest picture, but the top is made of loops instead of the traditional hide-the-entire-ugly-bar, and the loops match the pretty red trim that can just barely be seen at the bottom of the curtains. Is it terribly obvious that I'm proud of this?:p I'm putting my sewing machine to good use (now that I've unpacked it from the box) and I have grand intentions of making lots more stuff...we'll see how it goes.

Food Tag

I've finally gotten around to this tag, and I've had some laughs at some of the other stuff I've read from other people.
7 things about me and food....

1. I love potatoes!! Baked, mashed, hashbrowns, sliced and fried, potato skins, in casssaroles. I love potatoes!!
2. I like the flavor onion lends to dishes when sauteed or otherwise cooked, but I can't stand them raw.
3. Although I disliked them immensely when I was younger, I have gained quite a fondness for mushrooms. My favorite way to eat them is stuffed with mozzerella cheese over the top, yummmm.
4. I'm in the same boat as Melinda with raw meats. The smell of them makes me wish to throw it all away and become a vegitarian.
5. Jell-o, oh yeah.
6. One of my favorite things is chicken, I love it, it's texture and flavor, mmmm, it makes me hungry just thinkin' about it
7. Having a toddler, I have grown rather fond of Goldfish, Teddy Grahams.

Pic of the Day #6

I have been dreadfully remiss in my duty to keep my beloved family informed of my little boy's antics and health. I beg forgiveness from you all with an update following.

Dallas has taken a liking to Funny Color Foam Soap, and refuses to take a bath without it. I've bought quite a store of it now, and this time he's covered, as you can see, in "Orange you Glad" foam.

With the return of warm days, Dallas has enjoyed his shorts and bare feet, and runs all over the yard playing with his dump trucks and tennis balls.
Just yesterday, while Josh and I worked on building a wall, Dallas climbed on top of the riding lawn mower and the tractor. His fearlessness scares me something aweful every time he displays it.

Here, then, is the conclusion to a rather long Pic of the Day entry.

Houdini in the family

I don't have a picture of this, but I don't think you wouldn't have wanted to see it anyway.
Dallas was wallering on me today, and I noticed he had that ever-familiar odor that told me he needed to be changed. When he climbed down, I thought "I'll wait just a few more minutes...". But a few minutes proved to be too long, and when I glanced at Dallas next, he had a nasty diaper in his hands. Now, to those of you who've experienced the I'm-becoming-independent-and-I-want-to-do-things-myself stage is very obvious; however, Dallas had managed the diaper removal....without taking the rest of his clothing off. There he stood, overalls, long-sleeve t-shirt, shoes and socks, and completely naked underneath. Josh and I were flabbergasted, I mean, what are the odds, right? Anyway, we quickly stripped him down and put him in the tub, and when he was finished, we were doubly sure that his diaper tabs were firmly in place before putting pjs on him. Just one of those things...
As for the past week, we've done nothing but try to get Dallas over the sniffles/cough, and Josh has been working, and I have been doing the almost-spring-cleaning thing, and finishing up a book series. Not much to tell about I'm afraid, I don't even have my taxes back to gloat about.
Hope ya'll are doin' well, smooches!!!

Pic of the Day #5

By all rights, I shoud have posted this yesterday, but Dallas wouldn't let me touch it. While I was getting ready for Stake Conference (doing my hair, actually), Dallas picked up the iron. I'm not sure you can see it, but he burned from underneath his thumb all the way up his fore finger. It's all blistered over, and today he let me touch his hand so that I could see if it needed any extra attention. It appears to be healing well, though, despite the fact that he's been trying to chew on that particular finger since yesterday.

Swordfight and Naptime

Saturday night, Josh got Dallas all riled up. Dallas was throwing a fit when it was time to get ready for bed, so Josh had a little mock swordfight with him. Actually what happened was Josh and I were fighting with these, and after Josh disarmed me, Dallas picked it up, climbed on the bed and started attacking my poor husband. Josh was forced to defend himself, and I was forced to capture it on film.
After Stake Conference, Dallas wiped out on the couch with me. It was a very nice service, there was a lot of talk about not being offended in church, or to let being offended keep you from attending. The speakers were wonderful, and there were many memories of Gordon B. Hinkley shared. I had ridden with a friend from church, Carla, and she spent the first half hour in the halls with Dallas, letting him run off some energy.
